The record
One of the last sessions Coltrane completed before his death that July, its slow-boiling, keening lines and Ali's loose pulse point toward a music still reaching past free jazz's known edges. Alice Coltrane's presence hints at the quartet that would carry his ideas forward.

Pressings
The earliest we list is the 1967 Impulse! AS-9120 in stereo, gatefold, with an RVG stamp. Mono A-9120 is the same year and also carries the stamp, one promo copy in a laminated sleeve. A 1967 club edition numbered 91288 turns up in both mono and stereo. From there AS-9120 is repressed steadily through the seventies, passing to ABC Impulse! by 1974 and MCA by 1981, so a gatefold alone will not date a copy. No audiophile reissue is on file for this title.
