The record
A five-part suite of spiritual devotion cast in fire -- twin drummers and Sanders' overtone-drenched tenor push the quartet's sound toward the freer terrain Coltrane was already entering. Recorded the same year as A Love Supreme, it's a far rawer, more turbulent companion piece to that hymn.

1966 is the front of this list: Impulse! A-9110 in mono and AS-9110 in stereo, both gatefold and both stamped RVG. The UK took it on His Master's Voice -- CLP 3575 mono and CSD 3575 stereo, in laminated sleeves -- and the stereo HMV is the earliest row we hold. Everything after is label succession rather than remastering, with Impulse! repressings through 1973 and ABC and MCA copies into the 1980s. We list no audiophile reissue for this title, so an original-era gatefold is what to look for.
