The record
A 1964 date that pushes past the hard-bop blueprint into freer, more angular terrain, with Spaulding's alto and flute prodding Hubbard toward sharper edges. Mathews and Chambers keep the pulse elastic, making this one of the trumpeter's more searching, boundary-testing Blue Note sessions.

Pressings
Mono BLP 4172 is the earliest pressing on file; the 1964 stereo BST 84172 is the copy listing a Plastylite ear. From 1966 the 84172 numbers are repressings and reissues, several of them carrying RVG stamps in 1966, 1970, 1971 and 1973, so that stamp does not separate an early copy from a late one here. Japanese GXK-8006 came in 1977, and a remastered 180g European ST 84172 in 2015.
