The record
Dolphy's reeds and Roach's timpani and mallets open strange, aching space around Little's own compositions on this Candid recording. Made the year before his death, it captures a young writer already working at the far edge of hard bop's harmony.

Pressings
The earliest on file is the 1961 US Candid stereo, CJS 9027, with a deep groove -- but the mono CJM 8027 is listed the same year and is the copy most Candid buyers actually chase, so weigh both rather than defaulting to the stereo. After 1961 it is all reissue: Japanese Candid pressings in 1971 and 1977, a 1978 Barnaby BR-5019, European copies in the mid-eighties, and Pure Pleasure's remastered CJS9027 from 2007.
