The record
Booker Little's trumpet and Ray Draper's tuba give this quintet a low, brassy center, with George Coleman's tenor filling the harmonic space a piano usually holds. Roach's writing keeps things compact, a hard-bop unit reshaped around unconventional weight.

Pressings
The earliest on file is the 1958 US Riverside mono, RLP 12-280, with the stereo following in 1959 as RLP 1122 -- a different number, so check the spine before you buy. Riverside pressed the mono again in 1960 and put out a stereo RS-3018 in 1968. Original Jazz Classics reissued it as OJC-304 in 1987; the newest mono is Craft's Record Store Day 180g, CR00816, from 2024.
