The record
Late-'50s bop from a trumpeter who'd survived the Parker years and come out the other side still sharp, backed by a rhythm section stacked with Flanagan's touch and Pettiford's woody swing. Two drummers across the date -- Philly Joe and Elvin -- give these sides a restless, shifting pulse rarely heard on a single Onyx date.
