The record

The credits double up at nearly every chair: Paul Chambers and Percy Heath on bass, 'Philly' Joe Jones and Art Taylor on drums, Tommy Flanagan and Walter Bishop, Jr. at the piano, Sonny Rollins and Charlie Chan on tenor, with Miles Davis the constant. 'The Serpent's Tooth' arrives in two parts, and 'Round About Midnight' and 'Vierd Blues' follow. Prestige PRLP 7044, 1956, Ira Gitler on the sleeve.

Pressings

The earliest Prestige pressing on file is the 1958 PRLP 7044 in mono, carrying an RVG stamp. Prestige repressed the same number in 1964, and a Diskmakers pressing of LP 7044 that year adds a laminated sleeve. Britain saw it on Transatlantic as PR-7044 in 1966. From 1983 the record has lived on OJC-071, still RVG-stamped, and Prestige has repressed that number as recently as 2015. No audiophile cut appears in our data, so a clean 1958 mono is the thing to hold out for.

Showing the first pressing, audiophile reissues and copies carrying a collector marker, out of 58 pressings on file.
