A '57 date finding Roach paying tribute to Bird's book with a working band built for it -- Dorham's brass agility and the Mobley/Coleman tenor lineage giving the bebop lines a burnished, post-Parker weight. Budget-label reissue territory via Trip, but the source session sits square in hard bop's foundational years.

Pressings
The earliest we list is the 1959 US Mercury mono, MG 36127; stereo of that year is SR 80019. The 1959 French pressing, 180019, is the copy logged with a deep groove and a laminated sleeve, which makes it the interesting foreign one. Beware the 1973 US reissue, which reuses MG 36127 outright. Japan's 1992 mono, DMJ-5026, is the tidiest reissue on file.
