The record
A dense, Afro-Cuban-inflected date from Roach's most politically charged run, with Dolphy's bass clarinet and Abbey Lincoln's wordless voice cutting through Patato Valdes's congas. Cut early in Impulse!'s life, it extends the freedom-suite arc of "We Insist!" into thornier, more orchestrated territory.

Pressings
The earliest on file is the 1961 US mono, A-8, with stereo AS-8 the same year; the Canadian Sparton mono adds a deep groove and a gatefold. AS-8 then stays in service through a 1965 repress and gatefold reissues across the 1970s, so on this title the label design tells you more than the number does. Speakers Corner cut a 180 gram AS-8 in 2002, and there is a 2019 Italian 180 gram gatefold on A-8.
