The record
A four-part suite built around earth, water, air, and fire, with Alice Coltrane's harp and harmonium casting the date in a spiritual-jazz haze far from Henderson's hard-bop roots. Haden's bass and Ndugu's drums ground the ritualistic sprawl, making this one of the era's boldest excursions into cosmic, modal territory.

The earliest copy on file is the 1974 US Milestone M-9053, with promo and Santa Maria pressing variants listed the same year. Contemporary foreign issues carry their own numbers -- Germany's BLPS 19184, France's 2C 064-95637 and Japan's SMJ-6057 -- so a first-year copy need not be American. The only modern reissue listed is the 180-gram European repress 0888072025165, which appears in 2018 and again in 2023.
