The record
Coltrane steps into Ornette's world here, borrowing Don Cherry, Charlie Haden, and Ed Blackwell to work through the free-jazz vocabulary he'd soon push further on his own. A fascinating detour on Atlantic -- Trane on soprano, feeling out new harmonic ground with Percy Heath sitting in as well.

Nothing on file predates 1966. The earliest row we list is a US Atlantic 1451 in mono, with stereo SD 1451 the same year, including Presswell and Monarch pressings on both sides of the fence. UK Atlantic ran 587004 mono and 588004 stereo, also 1966. Later Atlantic reissues move to 90041-1 in 1982, then return to SD 1451 for the 2001 and 2003 180 gram pressings, and a 2017 US 1451 is mono on 180 gram. No audiophile-series reissue is listed here.
