Contemporary reception
Mobley is a tenorman with a compulsion to swing, and this he does here, for not only does his own rhythmic sense stand him in good stead, he has the good fortune of the Kelly-Chambers-Blakey rhythm section. And these three also contribute their own outstanding solo work to the session. Excitement is generated throughout, especially on “Remember,” “Split Feelin’s” and “If I Should Lose You.”
Pressings
The earliest on file is the 1960 Blue Note BLP 4031 in mono, with an RVG stamp and a Plastylite ear -- that is the copy this record is known for. Worth knowing: we hold no original-era stereo. The earliest BST 84031 in our data is a 1968 reissue. Mono repressings of 4031 run through 1966, some with deep groove and laminated sleeve. Music Matters is the modern standard, MMBST-84031 at 45 RPM in 2008 and on SRX in 2020; Blue Note's own mono BLP 4031 came in 2004.
