The record
Recorded not long after Baker's release from an Italian prison, this session pairs his burnished, unhurried tone with a sharp European sextet fluent in hard bop. Jaspar's tenor and Thomas's guitar give the date a Continental muscularity that keeps the leader honest.

Every original-era copy on file is Italian: RCA Victor PML 10307, mono, 1962, including a deluxe edition in a triple-folded cover and an RCA Italiana copy with a laminated sleeve. No stereo pressing is listed at all. Japan reissued it as RGP-1182 in 1976. For modern vinyl, ORG Music did a mono 180 gram, ORGM-1075, and a numbered 45 RPM, ORGM-1076, both in 2012, and Music On Vinyl's MOVLP1046 followed in 2014.
