The record

A snapshot of Belgian-born Jaspar working the Paris scene, trading tenor lines amid a deep bench of French modernists -- Michelot, Renaud, Gourley -- steeped in the era's cool-toned, Lester Young-inflected bebop. Inner City's reissue preserves an early-'50s document of European jazz finding its own voice within the American idiom.
