Ventura works through the whole saxophone family here, a bop-schooled honker showing off tone and range with a crack rhythm section anchoring things underneath. Dave McKenna's stride-inflected comping and young Richard Davis on bass give this small-label date real muscle beneath Ventura's showmanship.
