The record

A tuba-and-bass date led by the low-end specialist himself, Callender front and center on a West Coast session stacked with Buddy Collette, Gerald Wilson, and Red Mitchell. Recorded for the short-lived MetroJazz label in 1958, it's a rare showcase for the bass and tuba as lead voices rather than rhythm section support.
