The record

A prime early document of the trumpeter's partnership with Gryce, whose sharp, modernist writing frames a young frontline still shaping the hard bop language. Two rhythm sections -- Silver and Redd on piano, Heath, Taylor and Clarke rotating through -- give the set a restless, exploratory energy.
