The record
Recorded live before a warm crowd, this one borrows Miles Davis's rhythm section -- Kelly, Chambers, Cobb -- plus Johnny Griffin's tenor, stretching Montgomery well past his usual trio frame. Club heat and hard-swinging support draw out some of his most unguarded playing on record.

Mono is RLP 434, stereo RLP 9434, both from 1962. The earliest copy on file is a Dutch mono RLP 434 -- a quirk of what we hold, not precedence; the 1962 US pressings are the same vintage, though the US mono we list is a promo. Analogue Productions cut a 45 rpm AJAZ 9434 in 2002, OJC-106 covers 1984, and a Kevin Gray remaster, CR00961, arrives in 2026.
