The record
Kelly, Chambers, and Cobb walked straight out of Miles Davis sessions into this one, with a young Freddie Hubbard sharpening the front line. Benton's Coltrane-adjacent tenor holds its own against that pedigree, recorded over three September days in 1960.
Session personnel
- Paul Chambers — bass
- Albert Heath — drums
- Jimmy Cobb — drums
- Wynton Kelly — piano
- Walter Benton — tenor saxophone
- Freddie Hubbard — trumpet
