The record

A rare leader date from a trumpeter better known as a sideman, cut for the short-lived Time label with brother Stanley's tenor alongside him and Max Roach anchoring the rhythm. Horace Parlan's blues-rooted piano and Julian Priester's trombone round out a compact, hard-bop frontline that never got the follow-up it deserved.
