The record
A West Coast trio leader steps into a hard-bop frontline with Blue Mitchell and two tenors, Frank Haynes and Stanley Turrentine, for a session cut away from his usual Ltd. quarters. McCann's gospel-rooted, funky piano still drives the date, but the horns give it a grittier, uptown edge.
