The record
Haynes and McBee push restlessly beneath Hancock's probing chords on this forward-leaning quintet set, with young trumpeter Charles Tolliver announcing himself early. McLean's alto finds plenty of open ground past hard bop's usual edges.

Both mono and stereo are on file for 1965, BLP 4179 and 84179, and the mono is where the collector detail sits: deep groove, RVG stamp, laminated sleeve, some copies deep groove on one side only. From 1966 the stereo BST-84179 is a reissue. After that it is Japanese pressings -- LNJ-80158 in 1977, GXK 8085 in 1978, BN 4179 in 1990 -- and a 2016 European 180 gram ST-84179.
