The record

Recorded in Paris near the end of his Blue Note run, this date adds Slide Hampton and Dizzy Reece for a fuller horn line, with Philly Joe Jones driving the rhythm with his usual snap. Lesser-known, but sturdy work from a stylist who shaped the label's sound.

Session personnel

  • Alby Cullaz — bass
  • "Philly" Joe Jones — drums
  • Vince Benedetti — piano
  • Hank Mobley — tenor saxophone
  • Slide Hampton — trombone
  • Dizzy Reece — trumpet

Pressings

The earliest we list is 1970, and it comes under one number, BST 84329 -- a US stereo copy and a German copy. That is the whole original-era picture in our file; no mono is recorded and nothing earlier appears. The only other entry is an undated German reissue, which is the row carrying an RVG stamp. Three pressings total, so check the label and the dead wax rather than trusting a seller's stated date.
