The record
A tight, blues-soaked date from Pearson's mid-'60s Blue Note run, pairing his understated compositional touch with the front line of Byrd, Henderson, and Spaulding. The rhythm section of Cranshaw and Roker keeps everything loose-limbed and swinging, a solid showcase for Pearson's gift as both pianist and writer.

Pressings
The earliest pressing on file here is the 1965 US mono BLP 4191 on Blue Note with an RVG stamp; stereo BST 84191 shares the year. The 1966 represses of both numbers carry the Plastylite ear, which is the marker to look for. After that it is stereo from a string of plants, on through a 1986 DMM remaster and 2009 180 gram copies. Music Matters' MMBST-84191 from 2017 is the audiophile option.
