Original material throughout, with McLean's alto needling against Byrd's warmer trumpet tone across a set that shows his pen sharpening alongside his playing. Pearson's chords and the Watkins-Humphries rhythm team keep the mood lean and unhurried.

Pressings
The earliest copy we list is the 1960 mono, Blue Note BLP 4026 -- deep groove, RVG stamp, 47 W 63rd address, Plastylite ear, laminated sleeve. A stereo 84026 from the same year carries the address and the groove too, and a 1961 mono has the deep groove on one side only. Repressings run through 1966, one of them listed explicitly without the ear. The 2008 US 200 gram mono is the clean modern option.
