A trio session where generational lines blur -- Ellington's harmonic authority meets Mingus and Roach pushing hard into freer, more combustible territory. Reportedly tense in the studio, but the friction only sharpens the results, especially on the title track's clattering urgency.

Pressings
Two 1962 United Artists Jazz pressings head this list: mono UAJ 14017 and stereo UAJS 15017, the stereo being the earliest row on file. The 1963 British issue on United Artists -- ULP 1039 mono, SULP 1039 stereo -- comes in a laminated sleeve and is often the cleaner buy. Solid State reissued it as SS 18022 in a gatefold from 1968, and that is where most affordable copies sit. The one modern cut worth naming is the 2020 Blue Note Tone Poet, B0031461-01.
