The record

A trio date built on Mance's blues-soaked touch, with Ray Brown's rock-solid bottom end and Lex Humphries keeping things swinging without clutter. Cut for Verve at the tail end of the '50s, it's a fine showcase of the earthy, gospel-tinged piano style that would soon make Mance a favorite accompanist and leader alike.
