The record
One of the great hard bop quintets caught near its peak, with Rollins' tenor already deepening into the voice that would define the era. A budget TRIP reissue of a session cut just months before Brown's death, this is essential, urgent postbop from a band running out of time.

Pressings
The earliest on file is a 1956 US EmArcy mono, MG 36070, on black labels with a deep groove. A blue-label copy of the same year is also deep-grooved, and blue-label deep-groove pressings recur in 1958 and 1961 -- label color alone will not date one. The 1957 UK EJL 1253 carries a laminated sleeve. Japanese reissues are plentiful from 1971 on, and the 2005 180-gram UCJU-9039 is the best modern copy we list.
