The record

A pan-European powerhouse stacked with expatriate talent, this Clarke-Boland date pairs Francy Boland's dense, brass-heavy charts with the twin-drums drive of Clarke and Clare -- and turns loose a saxophone section deep enough to spare Lockjaw Davis for guest fireworks. Recorded for BASF in the early '70s, it's big band jazz at full boil, all riffs and roar.
