The record
A rare sideman date for Monk, whose angular comping shadows Terry's fleet flugelhorn work rather than the other way around. Sam Jones and Philly Joe Jones keep things swinging hard underneath, making for one of the era's more unusual and rewarding pairings.

The earliest pressing on file here is the 1958 Riverside RLP 12-271 in mono, with a small-label variant also dated 1958. Several undated RLP 12-271 monos sit alongside them: one marked deep groove, one repress with deep groove on side one and a laminated sleeve, and one repress listed with no deep groove -- label detail decides which you are holding. OJC-302 is the long-running reissue, and Craft's 2024 mono CR00723 on 180 gram is the current one.
