The record
Cut in tribute to his father's island roots, this set brings J.J. Johnson's trombone into the working band for three tunes, softening the horn section's edges with island-flavored melody. Henderson and Shaw keep the swing sturdy while the writing turns warmer and more personal than usual.

The earliest on file are 1965 US Blue Note copies -- stereo BST 84220 with RVG stamp, Plastylite ear and laminated sleeve, and mono BLP 4220 with stamp and ear. A 1966 stereo repress still shows the ear and the laminated sleeve, so check the record rather than trusting the year. Music Matters cut a numbered 45 RPM MMBST-84220 in 2008, and Blue Note's own 180-gram gatefold BST-84220 arrived in 2016.
