A tight, brassy session cut for Debut, Mingus's own imprint, with Max Roach sitting in alongside Willie Jones for a rare two-drummer date. Mal Waldron's piano and Eddie Bert's trombone give the frontline extra weight, catching Mingus mid-decade as he sharpened the compositional voice that would define his later work.
