The record

Stitt's alto cuts hard and bright over McDuff's greasy organ swells, a one-off pairing that leans fully into the soul-jazz groove Prestige was mining hard in the early '60s. Gaskin and Lovelle keep it loose and pocketed, letting the horn-and-organ conversation do all the talking.

Session personnel

  • Sonny Stitt — alto saxophone
  • Leonard Gaskin — bass
  • Herbie Lovelle — drums
  • Brother Jack McDuff — organ
