The record

Live trio dates at Chicago's After Hours sessions found her stripped of orchestral gloss, just Bright, Davis, and Haynes framing that instrument at its most conversational and unguarded. A late-night, intimate document of a singer who rarely worked this small a room on record.

Session personnel

  • Richard Davis — bass
  • Roy Haynes — drums
  • Ronnell Bright — piano
  • Frank Wess — tenor saxophone
  • Henry Coker — trombone
  • Thad Jones — trumpet
  • Wendell Culley — trumpet
