The record

Elvin Jones rolls loose and heavy beneath these themes, an odd fit on paper that clicks into something genuinely new, Garrison anchoring with deep arco work. Dewey Redman joins the front line, giving Coleman a second voice to bounce ideas against.

Session personnel

  • Jimmy Garrison — bass
  • Elvin Jones — drums

Pressings

We hold no original-era LP for this title. Everything on file dates to 1971: a US Blue Note stereo, BST-84356, with a Van Gelder stamp; a US repress on the same number with blue and black Liberty labels; and a German BST 84 356 K. All three are 1971 copies, so buy on condition rather than on label detail, and treat any claimed earlier pressing as something to verify yourself before paying for it.
