The record

An expat American tenorman fronting a Kenny Clarke/Francy Boland rhythm section, cut for MPS during that fertile mid-'60s stretch when Europe's jazz scene ran on transplanted Americans. Davis's blend of hard bop grit and soprano/flute color makes this a lesser-known but sturdy document of the era's transatlantic swing.

Session personnel

  • Jimmy Woode — bass
  • Kenny Clarke — drums
  • Francy Boland — piano
  • Nathan Davis — tenor saxophone, soprano saxophone, flute
