First studio date built entirely from originals, Shorter's tunes opening up harmony the quintet had kept tighter before, with Carter, Hancock, and Williams treating tempo as something to argue with rather than keep.

Pressings

Mono and stereo both landed in 1965: US Columbia CS 9150 in stereo is the earliest on file, with mono CL 2350 alongside it from the Pitman and Santa Maria plants, so the plant stamp is what separates otherwise identical copies. Japan's 1965 CBS YS-525-C is the only copy we list in a gatefold. Columbia repressed CS 9150 through 1971 and switched to PC 9150 in 1973. The audiophile choice is Mobile Fidelity's numbered 45 RPM double MFSL 2-451.
