Caught live at the East Village haunt that gave the date its title, this quartet finds Tyner pushing beyond the Coltrane quartet's shadow with Henderson's tenor and DeJohnette's restless drums stretching the modal frame wide open. Grimes anchors the churn with the same elastic pulse he brought to Ayler's free-jazz dates that same year.
