The record
A rare vocal date from the Woody Herman alumna, cast against a chamber-jazz backdrop of vibraphone, viola, and cello rather than a standard horn section. Teddy Charles's arranging instincts and the Waldron-Raney-Pettiford/Duvivier rhythm work give McCall's cool, world-weary phrasing an unusually textured setting.
