The record
Bill Russo brings his Kenton-schooled arranging chops to Roulette, stacking a cello choir against reeds and rhythm for a chamber-jazz sound that pushed big-band writing toward the concert hall. A restless, third-stream leaning date from a composer more interested in orchestral color than swing-era convention.
