Before his Impulse! dates with Coltrane sealed his name, Hartman cut this Bethlehem session backed by a small-band who's-who -- Hank Jones, Milt Hinton, Lucky Thompson among them. His baritone croon glides over tasteful charts, a mid-'50s showcase for one of vocal jazz's smoothest instruments.
