The record
A hushed, harmonically rich follow-up to Maiden Voyage, built around a horn-less-brass palette of flugelhorn, alto flute, and bass trombone that colors rather than solos. Post-bop tenderness at its most quietly forward-looking, with Carter and Roker keeping time soft enough to hear the voicings breathe.
