The record
A West Coast cooperative date cut for Fantasy in 1955, splitting duties between two piano voices soon bound for wider fame -- Sonny Clark and a young Vince Guaraldi -- with Jerry Dodgion's alto threading through the changes. Bassist Ron Crotty gets top billing, but the record plays as a snapshot of the Bay Area's cool, close-knit scene just before its brightest players scattered east.
