The record

Classical-trained Gulda's third-stream ambitions meet a genuine working jazz band here, pairing Tubby Hayes and Sahib Shihab against Ron Carter and Mel Lewis for a European big-band date that treats swing and composition as equals. MPS captures the pianist's crossover instincts at their most fully orchestrated.
