The record
A big-band Mingus caught in full flight, this festival date stacks trumpets and reeds against tuba and bass clarinet for that dense, tumbling ensemble sound only he wrote. Byard's piano and Richmond's drums keep the whole unruly orchestra lurching forward with swing intact.
