The record
A tight West Coast octet date built around Perkins' cool, Lester-lineage tenor, with Bud Shank and Jack Nimitz filling out a reed section rich enough to carry real ensemble weight. Mel Lewis and Red Mitchell keep things loose-limbed and swinging, giving the arrangements room to breathe between solos.
