The record
A quartet stripped to essentials, cut for Nat Hentoff's Candid during a brief window of creative freedom outside the major labels. Dolphy's alto and bass clarinet spar with Curson's trumpet over Mingus and Richmond's elastic pulse, the fire and tenderness of "Folk Forms" and "All the Things You C#" laid bare.
Session personnel
- Eric Dolphy — alto saxophone, bass clarinet
- Charles Mingus — bass
- Dannie Richmond — drums
- Ted Curson — trumpet

Pressings
We hold no original-era LP for this title. The pressing list starts with a 1979 Spanish reissue on Puzzle, MPL-124, then a 2018 Jazz Images gatefold, 37105, and a 2022 US Candid remaster, 30051. If you want a Candid original you will be shopping outside what we list. Of the copies on file, the 2022 Candid 30051 is the only one cut from a current remaster, and it is the sensible buy.
