The record

A stacked early-60s date that finds Taylor's roiling piano logic pushed against a genuinely swinging horn section -- Terry, Rudd, Shepp, Lacy, Davis -- with two drummers splitting duties. Barnaby's later reissue title oversells the "R&B" angle, but the session captures Taylor at a real hinge point between hard bop lineage and the free language he'd soon fully claim.
