The record
Cut in the thick of the bossa nova craze, Cannonball steps into a Rio rhythm section led by Sérgio Mendes and horn man Pedro Paulo, trading his usual hard-bop crew for genuine Brazilian pulse. The result feels less like a jazzman sampling a trend than a real cross-continental conversation, loose and sun-warmed.
