The record
A veteran of the Earl Hines and Basie bands, Johnson leads a crack rhythm section here, with Duvivier and Davis splitting bass duties over Tate's crisp swing. Cut for Argo in late '64, it's a tenorman's date built on decades of big-band savvy, loose and blues-wise rather than flashy.
Session personnel
- George Duvivier — bass
- Richard Davis — bass
- Grady Tate — drums
- Albert Dailey — piano
- Budd Johnson — tenor saxophone
- Joe Newman — trumpet
